So, You Are Moving to Oklahoma!

Here’s what you need to get started homeschooling here!

First of all, WELCOME! We are glad you’re here! We are Homeschool Oklahoma, and we are here to equip, encourage and inform you on your homeschool journey. We have worked to make our website as helpful and comprehensive as possible, and we invite you to browse all we have to offer. If you still have questions or need help, send an email to team@hsok.org.

You will want to become familiar with Oklahoma’s homeschooling laws. While homeschooling is legal in all 50 states, each state has unique regulations and requirements. You will be glad to know that Oklahoma does not require credentialing for teaching parents, registration of homeschooled students, portfolio examinations, or standardized testing. HSOK recommends that parents maintain a portfolio for each student which contains basic student information, curricula used, book lists, field trips, and work samples. HSOK members have access to our Homeschool Planner.

Make sure to formally withdraw from any academic “partner,” “umbrella,” “virtual,” or other support organizations in your former state of residence, particularly those administered by the State Department of Education or any school district. Our Sample Withdrawal Letter will help you get started.

Visit the Oklahoma’s Promise website to learn about the program that allows eighth-, ninth-, tenth- and eleventh-grade students from families with an income of $60,000 or less to earn a college tuition scholarship. Students must also meet academic and conduct requirements in high school. This program is available to all Oklahoma high school students. Application and income requirements are here.
