Homeschool Oklahoma wants to connect homeschooling families with their local homeschool communities! Homeschooling in Oklahoma brings a wealth of available activities, but most homeschooling families are only aware of a fraction of them. To help solve this problem, Homeschool Oklahoma is introducing the HSOK Social Calendar!
The goal of the calendar is to help homeschoolers participate more fully in the homeschool community life in Oklahoma. There is hardly a better way to support the homeschooling community than by participating in it. Want to watch a varsity sports event? Go rollerskating with other homeschool families? See a debate tournament? Watch a homeschool performance? We’ve got you covered!
In our new social calendar, we have events categorized by location and type of event to make it easy for you to find events near you that your family is interested in. The calendar itself supports a list view, a “month view”, and a “week view” depending on how you like to schedule things. Additionally, you can filter the calendar for just your metro area. Finally, we have labeled each activity to tell you what type of event it is:
- C: Competition—this includes sporting events, but also other types of competitions such as debate tournaments or robot battles
- O: Outings/Activities—these are fun outing where a group or a business (such as a skating rink) has set aside a special time for homeschoolers to get together
- A: Fine arts—these are showings/presentations of paintings, photography, or movies by the homeschooling community
- P: Performing arts—these are showings of concerts or plays done by homeschooling community
- E: Special events—these are things like a dance/prom or a HSOK-sponsored state activity
Oklahoma is already the best state in the nation to homeschool in. However, just because we are already the best doesn’t mean that we can’t do better! By supporting each other in our daily lives and activities, and by supporting events that cater to homeschoolers, we can continue to build Oklahoma as the best place on earth to homeschool in.
Our initial calendar is Tulsa-focused, but we are actively looking for volunteers to manage the calendar for the other metro areas in Oklahoma. If you are interested, please let us know! We are also looking for a second volunteer for the Tulsa calendar as well.
If you have an event you want to add, you can click here to submit it. We look forward to seeing everyone out and about as we support each other in our homeschooling efforts!
