Rules for Submission
Homeschooling in Oklahoma brings a wealth of available activities, but most homeschooling families are only aware of a fraction of them. The goal of the calendar is to help homeschoolers participate more fully in the homeschool community life in Oklahoma. These guidelines were made to ensure that (a) the calendar is focused on this goal, (b) the calendar is helpful for homeschooling families, and (c) the calendar represents a wide array of options without feeling cluttered. Following the rules does not guarantee inclusion in the calendar. Any exceptions to the rules require authorization from the HSOK board.
Homeschool Focus: To be included, an event must be focused on the homeschooling community, either by featuring homeschoolers performing or by gearing for the attendance of the homeschooling community. It does not have to be exclusively for homeschoolers, but that should be the focus. For instance, if a roller skating rink does a “homeschool session,” that is allowed even if they also admit non-homeschoolers, as long as the event’s focus is homeschoolers.
Public Admittance: The calendar will not include events specific to a group or co-op. For instance, if a homeschooling group runs a homeschool prom, that can be featured if the ticket sales are open to all homeschoolers, not just the ones in their group. Additionally, the venue must be in a location conducive to public attendance for inclusion on the calendar. For instance, NOAH playing at the Cascia Hall Tennis Tournament was not included because of insufficient parking and facilities for the general public to come and watch.
Top-Level Performance: The calendar only includes the top-level abilities for a sports or performance event. That is, we are focusing on varsity sports and upper-level performances.
Local Sports: The goal of the sports events is not to include a complete schedule for every team. We are primarily including home games. Sports teams can also include one public info meeting per sport per year.
Don’t Overwhelm the Calendar: The calendar’s goal is to provide a focus for the homeschooling community. Non-sport activities that occur more than once per month will require HSOK board member approval.
Continual Activities: Things that are always open should probably be included on our Local Listings or Field Trip pages rather than on the calendar. Email team@hsok.org to discuss this.
